VistA is a robust, enterprise-wide health information used by the Department of Veterans Affairs and made available to the public through the Freedom of Information Act. Hui OpenVista has attracted widespread interest from healthcare and medical research organizations as well as technology companies and software developers worldwide.

The Hui is collaborating with government and the private sector to address the critical need for skilled VistA programmers and clinical application specialists. Through the VistA Institute, the Hui aims to establish a VistA learning resource center that will enable distance learning of the application and increase the proficiency of VistA adopters globally.

The Pacific Telehealth & Technology Hui was formed in 1999 with the encouragement and support of U.S. Senator Daniel K. Inouye. A subsidiary of the Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC) under the U.S. Army Medical Research and Material Command, the Hui facilitates interdisciplinary research partnerships with government, academia and industry to advance the development of emerging technologies and improve health care for beneficiaries in the Pacific region.
