Medical gives FreeB and OpenEMR greenlight
FreeMed Posted by Fred Trotter on Friday February 13, 2004 @ 10:04 PM
from the FreeB dept.
FreeB the only medical billing system available under the GPL, has just passed a major milestone thanks to the OpenEMR Project. A X12 file generated by FreeB has passed the tests to be accepted by Medical. This is a pretty huge step since the Medical process is pretty difficult to navigate, and Medical is a very important payer in California. My thanks go out to the OpenEMR guys!! Maybe I can convice Igancio to give me my own topic now... Digg this article

This is great. A major milestone for all open source healthcare projects. Billing has always been a major issue.

Special thanks to the OpenEMR folks for tackling that obstacle too.

    Medi-Cal
by Walt Pennington on Monday February 16, 2004 @ 11:51 PM
We appreciate all that Fred Trotter and FreeB has done for billing for open source applications. We have a developer test account for California's Medi-Cal to submit test data for approval for payment. Our FreeB submissions to Medi-Cal were accepted and approved.

We are now approximately 60% toward attaching OpenEMR fields to FreeB. After attaching all relevant OpenEMR fields to the appropriate area in FreeB, we will begin testing FreeB and OpenEMR for final approval with Medi-Cal.

The download of OpenEMR or information can be found at http://www.OpenEMR.net
