OpenEMR - An IBM Global Partner
Medical Open Source Development Posted by Walt Pennington on Wednesday April 28, 2004 @ 06:04 PM
from the OpenEMR dept.
OpenEMR is the first open source electronic medical record and practice managment application to be accepted as an IBM Global Solution. As an IBM solution OpenEMR and Pennington Firm are included in IBM's Global Solutions and Global Partner Directories. IBM's Global Solutions Directory is an online directory containing thousands of applications, tools and services from IBM and IBM Business Partners. Digg this article

Congrats but "first" is not correct. The only current one may be a correct term but I would check to see if SQLClinic is or isn't. FreePM and Free Practice Management, Inc. were listed as IBM Partners in 2001 and was the first open source healthcare application to run on an IBM mainframe. Cheers, Tim

At the IBM web site I searched for EMR and electronic medical record. The only open source result is OpenEMR.

Click here to see the search we used.

At the IBM Global Solutions site, we searched by name, and partial name for all of the other projects, and none were listed. We are certainly open to modifying our claim about being the first and only open source EMR and practice management application to be an IBM Global partner, however we need verifiable proof that these projects were listed as IBM Global Solutions or Partners.

At this time, we have been unable to find any verifiable evidence to refute our claim that any open source project, other than OpenEMR, has been an IBM Global Solution.

Again, we are not saying that other open source projects did not work on IBM hardware. We are claiming that we cannot find any verifiable evidence from IBM to refute our claim that OpenEMR is the first and only open source electronic medical record and practice management application to become an IBM Global Solution.

        Walt,
I did not intend to imply that your assertion was not genuine and that you did not exercise due dilligence. My comment was just to state history correctly. Free Practice Management, Inc. is no longer in business so therefore OpenEMR is likely the only *current* one.

I will forward to you for your own gratification the acceptance email dated 6/29/2001.

        Again....congrats on acceptance.

        Tim

      My Apologies......

This was a different IBM Partner program in 2001.

Walt is correct on being "first and only".

      Regards,
      Tim
